Building a Virtual Herbarium is Underway: new postings as of February 12, 2014
Greetings,
Building a Virtual Herbarium is underway. Each plant page or virtual herbarium sheet will contain photographic and informational content in various forms. The goal is to provide content on native plants that you will find helpful and interesting and present it to you in a well organized and engaging manner. These v-herbarium sheets are meant to be dynamic with periodic content additions and updates. The links below will directly connect you to a particular v-herbarium sheet for that specific plant. You can also view these v-herbarium sheets by selecting Virtual Herbarium located under the menu heading Plantbook.
I'm looking forward to the walks and programs posted on our society's upcoming events calendar and experiencing the joy of adventure with each of you as we discover nature's wonders.
Safe travels always to you and yours,
Lisa K. Schlag
rock polypody fern
Henry David Thoreau described the mats of Polypodium virginianum gracing rocky surfaces in early spring as “fresh and cheerful communities". The blade of this rock fern has a leathery texture and is deep green on both the upper and underside surfaces. Usually positioned in rows on either side of the mid-vein are the round, pale brown sori.
