Join NPS member Fred Losi on this autumn exploration of an old growth forest in North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks.
Part 1: Meet at Strawberry Picnic Area (9:00 - 10:30 am)
We will traverse the one-mile White Pine Loop Trail, where towering White Pines and Eastern Hemlocks grow along a deep ravine.
Part 2: A.B. Williams Memorial Woods (10:30 am - Noon)
We will drive 1.5 miles to this new location. There, we will hike the Sylvan Trail which starts at the site of the old Trailside Museum and visit an old growth beech-maple forest known to be studied extensively by A.B. Williams, the park system's first naturalist. This location is both a National Natural Landmark and a member of the Old Growth Forest Network.
Be prepared to be wowed by both the humongous trees and beautiful fall color.
